About Whakanui

Whakanui was born in 1958 in Whanganui, New Zealand. He is a Maori poet, writer, and performer. Whakanui has published over 20 books of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. He has also written for film, television, and theater.

Whakanui is a recipient of the Prime Minister's Award for Literary Achievement. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and a member of the Free Download of New Zealand.
